When you give a photographer a camera...
When you give a photographer a camera, she might photograph herself giving birth. Ha! You read that right. I did it. It was 8 months ago but it happened and I still think it’s pretty dang cool.
I’m just now getting around to blogging this because life has been CRAZY! Three kids, pandemic, distance learning, you name it! But here we are! I won’t bombard you with all the photos I took this day, but here are some of my favorites that I think tell the story quite well.
December 17, 2019 I was induced at Sutter hospital in Santa Rosa. This was my first time being induced so it was a bit unusual, but also allowed me to document a lot of this day in a calm way. I knew I wanted to photograph myself giving birth from the moment I found out I was pregnant. I also knew that it may not happen. Everything had to go just right. Everything had to be perfect in order for this to happen and, well, I couldn’t have gotten luckier with the way things went.
Why did I do this? I got this question a lot and some people still don’t understand why I wanted to photograph myself giving birth. But you know what? That’s ok. Other people don’t have to understand it. I wanted to do it. These photos are special to me. What mother can say they have their baby’s first birth earth-side ON CAMERA from THEIR POINT OF VIEW? Me!
So here you go! My Brynley June was born 8 months ago and she’s seriously the easiest, sweetest, most lovable little human on this planet.
xoxo,
Hailey
